On the 19th of October, a ceremony to officially celebrate the creation of the “WANG Chuanlun Endowment” was held at RUC. Professor WANG’s wife, LU Qi along with family and colleagues donated over 1 million RMB to establish the endowment, which is aimed at creating a cross-cultural platform for fostering talented students and furthering research in the national finance industry, so as to carry on the spirit of Professor WANG. One of the principle aims of the endowment will be to facilitate students in the School of Finance to study abroad.

A ceremony was held to formally establish the endowment, with RUC Council Chairwoman JIN Nuo present to accept the donation check, in turn presenting the donors with a certificate. The ceremony was attended by many people including assistant to the President ZHENG Shuiquan, Director of the School of Finance GUO Qingwang, Professor WANG’s wife LU Qi, and many of Professor WANG’s students. During the ceremony, Mrs. LU Qi presents Chairwoman JIN with a donation check, and Chairwoman JIN presents Mrs. LU with a donation certificate.

Vice-President YI Zhihong attended the ceremony, giving a speech in honour of Professor WANG. She stated that, in accordance with Professor WANG’s wishes, and with the help of generous donations from his family and his colleagues, the school has created the “WANG Chuanlun endowment” as a public charity to further the educational opportunities of future generations. She continued by emphasising how professor WANG devoted his life to education and research in the field of national finance and banking, and as such, the school will do everything in its power to make sure the endowment is used to full benefit of students, and that the University will strive to develop the endowment, strengthening the fund to ensure it will continue to benefit future generations.

Mrs. LU Qi expressed her thanks to the leaders of the University and the School of Finance, as well as to Professor WANG’s colleagues and students. She told the audience how Professor WANG devoted his life to education, and hence establishing the fund is a way of continuing his legacy. In this, it is hoped that this endowment will be used to make a significant contribution to the development of education in finance and banking.

BEI Duoguang, LI Yang and GAO Peiyong, representatives of Professor WANG’s colleagues at the School of Finance, also gave speeches in which they conveyed how professor WANG was one of the founders of finance studies in China, and that his dedication to academia and service to the nation has had a profound influence on all his students. Many of his students will go on to be the leaders of tomorrow, continuing the work of Professor WANG.

Professor WANG was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. He has made a lifelong contribution to the fields of finance and banking, being an active member in many academic institutions and governmental committees. He was a leading economist and educator, a PhD supervisor, and was a top-level professor at RUC.
